June 7

Did you guess I’ve traveled to
California?

I was able to visit the coastal city of Pacifica, California, which is just south of San Francisco.

Here is something interesting I learned about the city.  “Pacifica means "peaceful" in Spanish. However, the City of Pacifica did not receive its name from its Spanish foreparents. Pacifica's name was the product of a contest held in 1957 to find a name for the newly incorporated coastal city. The winning name was based on an 80-foot statue by sculptor Ralph Stackpole, created as the theme lady for the Golden Gate International Exposition”. (source)  How would you like to participate in naming your city?  That would be pretty cool!  This is a picture of the statue “Pacifica”

While I was in Pacifica I just had to check out their local library!  I just can’t stay away!

I went to a parade in celebration of "Fog Fest" --Pacifica is known for its foggy weather.  However, the fog had lifted and it was a beautiful day!

I visited the beach to see the Pacific Ocean, but it was so windy I nearly got blown away! (Thus I have no picture of me at the ocean!)  But here are a few other things I saw while I was visiting.

Well, I have enjoyed my visit to California and the beautiful city of Pacifica, but now I must be off!  I will be traveling across the Pacific Ocean to a far distant country…
